Defeated
Well, there will be no Hollywood directors calling this year. The comeback story of 2006 ended last night before even the slightest hint of rejuvenation. Our basketball team, The Raiders, went 0-9 for the season at Hoop Heaven. Ironically, our final loss came at the hands of a 9 year-old. That is not a misprint. We were seeded last with a 0-8 record going into the single-elimination playoffs. However, we thought we had a chance with the news that seeds 1 and 2 got byes to the second round. Not even close. This team was as big and talented as any we were humiliated by all season. They quickly got up 20 and subbed in a 9 year-old and 12 year-old. I immediately logged a no mercy block on the 4-foot youngster, but then he just took off. In the end, the little runt had about 15 points with three threes and three fast breaks not to mention the steals and assists. We lost by thirty. On a night when most of male America was watching Jimmy V’s “don’t give up, don’t ever give up” Classic, we were the embodiment of that advice. 115% until the final whistle. Whether that whistle was blown early in a slaughter or not is beside the point. Great season Raiders, great season.
