Repeat Strangers

I've been commuting from NYC to Jersey for about a month now, and the interaction of repeat strangers is extremely entertaining. Many have probably experienced this before, but it starts with the second or third time you follow a consistent path with a stranger. There is the moment where you recognize each other, and, if both people are friendly, a small smile may be exchanged. From this moment to the first full sentence are typically weeks of awkward smiles, mornin's, or bold hellos. Eventually, the pressure of knowing each other's precise schedule and directions becomes too much, and you make an innocent short comment. At that very moment, all changes. You have now leaped from strangers to acquaintances, and the rest is history. Truly beautiful. Truly bizarre.

Clarke, not only are you easy on the eyes but your witty views are titillating. We are curious to know how many repeat strangers you have made acquaintances. Two? Maybe three? We must admit that we give you credit because we tend to treat repeat strangers as strangers forever. Must be the east coast upbringing in us. Your mid-west roots are showing. Lets make ourselves repeat strangers once again, preferably over a cocktail.

By the way, we need some stories about co-raising dogs.

Thanks for the comment Katie and Francine. I currently have about ten "hello" strangers and four small talk friends. Co-raising a dog while dating someone is dangerous in my opinion. The dog can provide good practice for child raising, but unfairly stands to get hurt in a break-up. This is particularly true considering they get no say in the custody battle, and could be left with their second favorite caretaker.
