Kick It Up Again

Sorry, sorry, and sorry. I know many of you have been frustrated with the lack of posts recently. My excuse is that I just moved into NYC, and have been living without Internet for a couple months. However, we are now settled, and I'll try to get back on the writing train.

Hopefully everyone had a great Thanksgiving. It is truly my favorite holiday. What could be better than a football, food, and family event without the stress of presents? Also, whichever genius scheduled it for a Thursday giving everyone outside of financial markets a four-day weekend, thank you.

There have been several posts on my mind, and I know I need to answer Katie's question about technology, so I'll keep this to short bullets.

First Katie, I do think cell phones, blackberrys, IPods, etc. have made our world more selfish. They are all conveniences geared toward the users with disregard for their surrounding public. Thus in lies the conundrum: they have made life more efficient and enjoyable for anyone that has one at the expense of those without. Most peoples' solution is to just get one for themselves. For example, everytime I get annoyed with loud music, or talking on a phone while on the train, I just put in my IPod. When someone texts at a movie, I think about the times I've done that, and accept their action as an important message that couldn't wait. In the end, I hate our world for being so cold with people constantly, and quite rudely, obsessed with these devices. However, am I willing to give up my convenience of sending an email during any two-minute downtime in the day? Probably not. My conclusion is to just try to be very conscience of your use of technology. Try to take the advantages without sacrificing personal relationships or common courtesy.

OK, that got a little long so I'll only make one more burning statement. 2008 will be the Year of Britney and the Cubs. Remember that down. You heard it here first.
