I just purchased tickets to Missy Higgins on Ticketmaster. Awesome, and I'd pay any amount to see this girl. Regardless, it pains me that Ticketmaster charges $11 per ticket in "convenience charges" on an $18.50 ticket. That is 60% more than the price of the ticket, and sounds more like extortion than convenience to me. Yes, I could probably go to the box office and avoid the fee, therefore living up to its name. However, the convenience of an Internet purchase would be the same if it was Ticketmaster or any other website. So, I have a dream. Someone create a website that sells tickets for free, or have the artists offer tickets through their websites. You can still make money from advertising a la facebook, but the service should have no cost. If you're worried about other administrative problems, cost of shipping, insurance, etc., you could only offer "pick up at the box office." Maybe this is implausible for the big names given Ticketmaster's grip on the market, but you could start it as an indie venue thing, and slowly chip away. Appreciate it.
