We Cool

Good stuff Georgie. Sounds like you have the answers to all our problems...countless initiatives. Some translated highlights: "Terrorism. No problem." "Let's just say you won't be able to fool me twice if I tap the phones of every Muhammad in this country." "Sorry New Orleans. We kind of dropped the ball on that one. Here's a school. Please shut up." "Social security. No problem. Dumb kids. No problem. No jobs. No problem. No oil. No problem." Also, is it typical of the President to immediately enter an autograph/photo session after the State of the Union? Goofy.

Your thoughts?

1,000 Days at Sea

This guy is CArazy! Reid Stowe plans to spend 1,000 days on his homemade boat circling the globe alone.

Dancing with the Stars

If you are a straight male, do yourself a favor and clear Thursdays from 8-9pm ET immediately. This show is a constant stream of the most beautiful women outside of Project Runway. Do it Do it (and thank me later).

Torino 2006

Anybody getting excited for the upcoming olympics? I currently believe the event has become little more than a glorified X-games, but am trying to find inspirational stories and reasons to watch. It looks like the American hockey team faces the same odds that the fabled University of Minnesota squad did in 1980. The bobsled, luge, curling, biathlon, and skeleton have never been America's cup of tea. Sasha Cohen and Michelle Kwan are pretty cute, but does either really have a chance at winning? Last I read, Kwan tore her hip and Sasha was preoccupied with Project Runway appearances. I do like that there is both a Chicagoan and a Cornellian in the figure skating though. Maybe I will just prepare for the World Cup and Beijing '08.

Gentleman and Scholar

I would like to introduce the noble Ben Roethlisberger. Drew has been instructing many to despise this individual since Ben’s impressive tenure at Miami, OH. Allegedly, he was arrogant and disrespectful to women. I have honestly tried to maintain a grudge against Big Ben out of respect for my friend’s opinion, but the wall has finally crumbled. I have never read a bad word about Ben, and have only witnessed him as a class act in all situations. He is dedicated to his family, friends, and teammates. He is well spoken, extremely humble, and has great perspective on his current standing. My final straw was when he removed his AFC Champions hat last week to shake the hand of losing quarterback Jake Plummer. Please tell me something I don’t know Drew, or join me on the bandwagon. Before responding though, you might want to read his blog at www.bigben7.com. GO STILLERS!

We received our fifteen-hundreth hit this afternoon, and would like to reward the viewer with $1,500. If you are responsible for this historic moment, please respond with proof of hit to claim the reward. Thank you all for continued visits and refreshings.

Final Score: Michalak 56, Dunleavy 74. No big whoop, just part of my life.

i had a better time in vegas

i too made a recent trip to vegas, and had the once in a life time experience of seeing the supreme canadian diva mega star queen of the universe Celine Dion in the 5th row. as you can all imagine, it was unbelievable. 90 minutes of non stop, chest thumping, foot stomping, on pitch yelling/belting at the top of her lungs capped off by a 5 minute standing ovation after the titanic theme song. it was a night i will cherish forever.

other vegas accomplishments include: gambling ONLY at the 5 cent slot machines, cashing out my $1.64 winnings, seeing Jenna Jameson (i don't really even know who that is), and taking the tickets to the gay club that drew and dan were offered.

Swimmy, Swammy, Swanson....SAMSONITE!

Drew- Thank you for opening the movie discussion with a grossly exaggerated endorsement of Donny Dorko. I, however, have always been more of a realist, a straight shooter, someone who tells it like it is (and probably regularly tells more than people care to hear). Here are the top three comedic movies of all time:
1. Dumb and Dumber
2. What About Bob?
3. Old School
After that, the list is up for interpretation with such possible contenders as Caddyshack, Office Space, Meet the Parents/Fockers, Zoolander, Super Troopers, Christmas Vacation, etc. Stay tuned for other genres.

Toxic Hell?...please

I think one of my all-time favorite Iceman moments would be the cream cheese request at Taco Bell. Imagine five men who don't speak a word of English outside the menu trying to figure out what this future Yup means. They keep turning to each other saying "no comprendo, hombre es loco, tenemos quesos otros?." Tommy doesn't understand the confusion, and continues to demand "Cream CHEESE" at increasing volumes. Finally, I catch my breath from laughing so hard, and tell him "Sour Cream." Pure Gold.

Speaking of Taco Bell (heaven), I had the Cheesy Bean and Rice Burrito for lunch. Delicious. Third only to the Crunch Wrap Supreme and untouchable Double-Decker Taco Supreme.

Groceries

As many of us begin our independent lives in apartments in strange cities with no mothers, I would like to open a forum to share survival techniques. Here are the top five grocery items I passionately endorse:

1. Mac and Cheese. Simple.
2. Martin's Potato Bread. Sweet, thick, and always fresh.
3. Hidden Valley Ranch Dressing. From chicken or pizza dinners to a carrot snack, this is the universal condiment.
4. Hamburger Helper: Cheeseburger Macaroni. Just add ground beef.
5. Campbell's CHUNKY: Chicken Corn Chowder. A meal in a can.

Hit me back with your pantry stuffers, and eventually I may have ten different things in my cupboard. Just a dream at this point.

Intel Chip

Drew-

If putting an Intel chip in the new Macs doesn’t inspire a post, I think all hope is lost for you. This is allegedly a “revolutionary” event, and I can’t even get an explanation from an aspiring Genius Bar employee. Well, I did a little research of my own, and here is what Apple proclaims:

“This is the first Mac notebook built upon the revolutionary new Intel Core Duo — which is actually two processors (up to 1.83GHz) engineered onto a single chip. It provides 2MB of Smart Cache, L2 cache that can be shared between both cores as needed. It delivers higher performance in 2D and 3D graphics, video editing, and music encoding. And the new engine is only part of the story. MacBook Pro has a frontside bus and memory that, at 667MHz, runs faster than any previous Mac notebook. It’s the first Mac notebook with PCI Express, a Serial ATA hard drive and the ATI Mobility Radeon X1600 for superfast graphics performance.”

Could you please shed some light on this historic moment? I am eager to know how sharing L2 cache and the ATI Mobility Radeon X1600 will improve this world.

Updates

Since my cohorts sit silent, I will give their respective updates.

Tad- "What do you want? I work, I sleep, I rinse and repeat. I can sing, dress, and throw better parties than you. Goodbye."
Dan- "Cough, cough. Last week I discovered there is such a thing as a 128th of an inch. Don't act like you're not impressed. Cough, cough."
Drew- "Hello. I am a robot. My doctor said the incessant digital infusion from my iBook, iPod, and iGirlfriend have computerized my blood, and I am programmed to terminate in 2020 barring an upgradeable restructuring."
Tom- "Giggle, giggle, hiccup. Hey, hey. I like sunshine, sunglasses, and sun-in highlights. Last week I quit my job because my boss wouldn't let me wear a totally fabulous pink suit to a new client proposal."

Here's a question: What makes every 22 year-old, minimally accomplished, moderately intelligent, narcissistic, recent college graduate drawn to single-syllable clubs like light, sun, fire, rain, wind, etc? I feel like I've created Captain Planet by the end of a bar-hopping night. Are you immediately sprung to the ranks of future socialite if you drink martinis in clubs with clean lines, ottoman chairs, and funeral-going waitresses? Who is leading who to these spots? Beautiful women followed by anyone who can afford it, or self-proclaimed successful men who draw the trophy-wife hopefuls? I rarely see a smile on anyone's face, so who is enjoying them-self?

Living Vicariously

Getting caught up in the social tendency to live vicariously through athletes, I am currently in a glass cage of emotion. The Bears game was a roller coaster ride of unexpected bad defense and decent offense. Then, in a most tender state, I watched Extreme Makeover: Home Edition. Wow. Anyway, the over-under on season wins was 6.5, so I'll take 11-5. It was an impressive breakout year for the defense, and I think 2006 is Rexy's time to shine. Now back to the cage. Goodnight and Happy MLK, Jr. weekend. When does baseball start?

UGGs in the office

Although Tom's first post fell way short of expectations, another event he should have written about surpassed even my wildest dreams...Christmas at the Mjoseth's. The night began as expected with a couple frat sodas and football, but it wasn't long before things took a turn for the better. Mr. Mjoseth was on martini three by nine and the basement couch before four digits struck. The rest of the party was at least five or six glasses deep as well when Kilmer rolled in with his little bro and spanking new Uggs. The chap has always been fashionable, but this was the pinnacle of his existence. He explained that his boss had already asked him to "stop wearing Uggs to the office," and showed us the "Ugg Dance" he had choreographed and practiced. INCREDIBLE!

When Disasters Strikes

For all of us in the danger zone it is important to be prepared. In a major disaster, it might be several days (at the most 72 hours) before vital services are restored. In these situations you need to know what to do and where to go. This is easily accomplished by following three simple steps. 1) Make a plan, without a plan you are as good as dead and there is absolutely no hope for your pathetic soul. 2) Build a kit, building is fun, and during a disater you need something to do I recommend some card, legos and perhaps one of those hand powered flahlights. Last of all, 3) Get Involved, the best way to prevent a disater is to get involved, become active in your local Community Disater Chapter, or if you don't have one, form one. All of these steps are outlined at the following website www.72hours.org . Just select the approriate disaster and enjoy planning for the future.

P.S. I hope my first blog lives up to the high expectations of All In Perspective

Google Earth

If you have not spent countless hours Google Earthing every address in memory, you are missing out big time. Download immediately: www.earth.google.com. Be advised that the images are several years old, so it's not as good of a stalking tool as I once dreamed.

Rose Bowl

The Game of the Century as they predicted lived up to all the hype, but sparked many questions. Vinny gave "mad props to Reggie and Matt," but was undeniably the best player on the field. Leinart still claims USC was "the better team." Is Reggie the best, or should Florida re-count? Can USC still call themselves better? Should Young go pro? For what it's worth, my answers are yes, yes, and yes.
